NCF BREAKS NEW GROUNDS WITH SUCCESSES RECORDED IN THE GRASS ROOT ELEMENTARY COACHING COURSE ORGANISED ACROSS FIVE ZONES

The Maiden Edition of the NCF Elementary Coaching course and coaching clinic for games masters and mistresses in primary and secondary school records another land mark success as various zones where different states were selected sent in their reports. Anambra, Rivers, FCT, and Kaduna all rounded off successfully with Lagos State Postponed till the end of this Month

This Initiative by President Emeka Onyeama led administration is geared towards the sustainability of Cricket in Nigeria with Grass root involvement as the bedrock.

The Elementary Coaching Course for primary schools took off as expected at Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka, Anambra State, Murtala Square Kaduna State, Civic center Port Harcourt, and National Stadium Package B’ FCT. with various schools in attendance.

After the registration and distribution of course materials ( T-shirts, manual and writing materials), a formal introduction was done by the course instructors Mr. Asika Ikemefuna and Assistant course instructor Mr. Charles Obasi for Anambra State, Mr Kunle Adegbola and Onwundiwe Okechukwu for FCT, Mr Ochie Onoja and Isaac Okpe for Kaduna State and Mr Uthe Ogbimi and Tonye Timinadi in Rivers State.20151006_130325

The teachers were taken through the role of a coach, introduction to cricket, ways of dismissals, batting including picking-up the bat, Grip, Stance, back lift and playing of various shots. The instructors also took out time to explain certain cricket terminologies like innings, wicket, LBW,Over, runs,  etc.IMG-20151006-00014 (1)

The participants were guided through the act of bowling and the various types and techniques involved. For example, fast, medium, slow, spin as well as swing bowling.

Another area of attention and concentration was fielding and wicket keeping with participants showing serious interest in these areas.. The instructors took out time to explain in details all about wicket keeping and various fielding positions.

Videos on Introduction to Cricket were also used in teaching the participants and they all expressed happiness to be part of the course.

The Final 2 days of the program saw 60 pupils from the 5 participating schools in the various zones across the country taking part in the coaching clinic during which basic skills game was introduced to them using their teachers as the guiding instructors with assistance in the coaching were provided by the various Instructors.IMG-20151010-WA0020

The idea was to test the ability of teachers who took part in the coaching course in regards to impacting on the pupils what they have learnt so far. In Kaduna State, the Regional Development officer for North-West Mr Onoja Ochie used the opportunity to present the equipments donated by the Nigeria Cricket Federation to the Kaduna State Cricket Association earlier this year in commensuration of the fire that engulfed the Cricket storage facility.

The director, Kaduna State Sports Council Mr Elisha Yashim, while receiving the equipments tanked the NCF and also promised to support the Game of Cricket until it becomes number 1 in the Sports council. Other Dignitaries Present were:
