The Nigeria U-19 team currently on show in Dar es salaam Tanzania have played three matches with their first game against Kenya On Valentine’s Day. Nigeria won the toss and elected to bat first scoring a total of 95 runs all out in 41 overs. Olaleye Elijah and Akachukwu Chima with 23 runs at piece were the major contributors in the Bating efforts for Nigeria while Yussuff Mustapha had two wickets off his first 2 deliveries as part of the Highlights of the bowling From team Nigeria.
In the Second Inning, Kenya responded in style and were able to shake off a nervy start when they lost 2 wickets off the First 2 deliveries. eventually scoring a total runs of 96 for the loss of 3 wickets in 34 overs to claim their first victory of the tournament. Gurdeep Singh was the mentor for Kenya with 49 runs. Paramveer Singh stole the show with 4 wickets as top performer in the bowling effort for Kenya.
Kenya won the Match by 7 wickets.
The second game for Nigeria was drawn against one of the tournament favorites Namibia. Namibia won the toss and as expected elected to Bat first scoring a total of 251 runs in 50 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Top Performer for the Namibian team was Sj Loftie Eaton with 80 runs off 96 balls strongly supported by Zane Green with 64 runs off 86 balls and Miass Strauss scoring 55 runs off 65 deliveries to round up am impressive triple half centuries by the Kenya Marksmen. Akachukwu Chima, Tay Alfread and Yussuff Mustapha could only manage solitary wickets at piece as efforts from the Nigeria bowling spells.
The second innings saw the Nigeria team trying to respond but with early wickets saw the Bating crumble with the team managing a total score of 87 runs all out in 32.3 overs. Captain Sylvester Okpe 26 runs off 56 deliveries, Chima Akachukwu 23 runs off 38 balls and Joel Joseph 11 runs off 35 balls were the only double score from the Bating effort of the Nigerian team. Hendrik Koekemoer 4 wickets and Fritz Coetzee 3 wickets and Tiaan Steenkamp 2 wickets were the Top Performers in the Bowling efforts for the Namibian Team Ensuring a well-deserved victory. Namibia won the Match by 164 runs but there were lots of positives to take from this Game and this was the highest score a Nigerian team has ever been able to put up against the Namibians in previous tournaments.
