Benin City the capital of Edo State Erupted over the weekend of 30th July 2016 when the Chairman Edo State Cricket Association (ESCA) Mr Uyi Akpata Re-launched the game in Edo State with a handsome donation of Equipment in the realm of millions of Naira.
Following the Coaching Clinic which was organized by the N.C.F in Collaboration with the Edo State Cricket Association during the week, the climax of rejuvenated Cricket activities saw every player, stake holders, Veterans, coaches and management of Edo State Cricket gather in hundreds at the Cricket pitch, Adolo College Benin City.
The day’s event began with a 5 overs match between Chairman’s 11 Vs Edo State 11 which was followed by another Match by the female team in Edo State with Nigeria Internationals Samantha Agazuma and Obulor Agatha as captains of both teams.
The kids were not left out of the show as an exhibition match by the U-10 Edo State team thrilled the chairman with some skills and Display to further guarantee that there in indeed hope for future.
The Vice Chairman Barr Abraham Oviawe in his speech introduced the Chairman to the entire Cricket Family in Edo state with a brief on state of the Association, Outreach, infrastructure, human capacity and lots more.
The Chairman in His Address thanked everybody for gracing the occasion where he pledged a total support structure for the re-launch, maintenance and sustenance of Cricket in Edo state. He also expressed his desire to spread the game across the 3 senatorial district in Edo State to provide competition at all levels.
High point of the occasion was the official ground breaking of the Reconstruction of the Adolo College Cricket pitch which will be the official Cricket ground in Edo State and a donation of Cricket Equipments worth millions of Naira to the Edo State Cricket Association.
Receiving the Equipments was the Assistant Director of sports Edo state, who thanked the chairman for his contribution and commitment to the growth and development of the sport in Edo State. He also used the opportunity to call on other Board chairmen to emulate this gesture so Edo State can return to glory days.
The coaches thanked the chairman for his donations and promised that work will resume immediately producing quality cricketers for the State and eventually the country and the equipments will be judiciously utilized.
The final Surprise of the day was the cash awards presented to deserving players and coaches by the chairman for the selfless services that have been invested in sustaining the game in the state over the years and against all odds.
